The coronavirus pandemic has affected millions of Filipinos. Rich or poor, no matter what your social standing is, no one is safe from the aftermath of the six moths of lockdown. Even celebrities are struggling to get by. Many turned to online selling or small-time businesses just to keep their livelihood amid the pandemic.
Among those celebrities who are not afraid to hustle is comedian Gladys Guevarra. The respected comedian is a well-known television figure. But these days, Gladys knows that she needs to find other means of earning since most tapings were suspended. So, she delved into business!
On social media, Gladys revealed that she is currently selling ‘kakanin’ and other home-cooked meals. At first, many eyebrows raised when they saw the famous comedian selling palitaw. But for Gladys, she has no reason to be embarrassed of her resourceful raket.
“Sabi nung kausap ko sa talipapa kanina, ‘Ha? Eh diba artista ka? Bakit ka nagtitinda ng palitaw?’ Eh ano naman ngayon ate? Naisip mo pa yun? Ang requirement ba sa pagtitinda, kailangan hindi artista? Gusto ko pa nga magtinda ng turon, halo-halo, ginataan, totong, lumpiang sariwa, pansit, at lumpiang pritong gulay.”
On the other hand, many netizens expressed their admiration for the comedian’s positive outlook in life. Indeed, you can really test an individual’s willpower amid a crisis. Instead of merely giving up, Gladys Guevarra sought other ways to stay afloat, something which some celebrities refused in doing.
Gladys is just one of the many comedians who lost their livelihood amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Many businesses closed down, and in turn, many comedy bars were also put out of business.
