101-Anyos na Lola sa Ilocos Sur, Naninirahan Mag-Isa at Nagta-Trabaho pa sa Bukid!

As our loved ones grow older, they need our care and support more than ever. Unfortunately, not all elderly people get to live with their family. Some of them are forced to live alone after being abandoned by their relatives. Among them is this elderly grandma from Ilocos Sur, whose story recently made rounds on social media.

Lola Felicidad Cabuena was featured in the documentary program “I Witness.” She is already 101 years old, but Lola Felicidad lives all by herself, unassisted.

At her age, she still manages to get up every day and take care of herself while working at the same time. She works in the fields during the day.

During her interview with I Witness, Lola Felicidad revealed that she’s an old maid. Back in the days, no men attempted to woo her and win her heart over.

Yet instead of moping, she chose to focus on her work instead. According to Lola Felicidad, she was also the sole provider of her family back then.

“Hindi ko gusto ‘yung laging nakaupo, walang trabaho. Hindi pwedeng hindi ako magtrabaho. Walang nagkagusto sa akin kasi ang pangit pangit ko. Kaya wala akong asawa, kapag pangit ka, hindi ka magugustuhan ano,” she says, looking back at her old days.

Regin Cabico is the wife of one of Lola Felicidad’s distant relative. She looks after the elderly grandma, and to compensate for her effort, Regin receives a small payment from Lola’s distant nephews.

According to Regin, Lola Felicidad prefers to live alone because all of her siblings already passed away.

Even though she’s living alone, Lola Felicidad doesn’t regret her life choices. According to her, if she would go back in time, she would still choose to work to provide for her family: “Hindi pwedeng hindi ka tumulong. Kapatid ko yun eh saka anak ng kapatid mo, hindi mo tutulungan?”
