Host KC Montero has finally spoken up about the rumor that he was rude towards one of the contestants in the recent Miss Universe Philippines 2020. Shortly after the winner was announce, the host was criticized for allegedly being rude towards Miss Bohol Pauline Amelinckx. In an interview with PEP, KC finally settled the matter once and for all.
According to KC, the aired video of their exchange should not be taken at face value since it was edited. In the real taping, KC had a quick exchange with Miss Bohol, just like he did with other contestants before and after her.
However, part of KC’s bubbly reply to Miss Bohol was cut off from the video. This ultimately gave the impression that he was being ‘rude.’

“I asked her, ‘Hi, kumusta, how are you?’ And she said, ‘I’m fine, how are you?’ So, I pretended na I was nervous. Sabi ko, ‘Oh, oh, oh di ko alam.’ Pero yung nervous reaction was not shown on TV. In-edit yun. Sa na-air, sabi ko, ‘How are you?’ Sabi niya, ‘I’m fine, and how are you?’ Tapos, sa edited, ‘No one ask me questions.’ Parang medyo mukhang bastos.”
In addition to that, Montero also implied that some Boholanos were dismayed that their bet did not win, so they took out their frustration on him.
In spite of this, Montero is fairly confident that he has no hand in the judgment of the competition.
“Pero yung mga tagal-Bohol, siyempre yun ang pride nila, yun ang contestant nila, syempre they’re all emotional. Unfortunately, she did not win. Parang they find na someone to get mad, and unfortunately it was me.”
On the other hand, the Miss Universe Philippines organization also extended its apologies to the host. On Facebook, they released a statement apologizing for the edited version that ‘portray him in a negative light.’
