Julia Barretto will not let Jay Sonza’s fake news go unnoticed. Earlier this week, Sonza claimed that the young actress was impregnated by her rumored boyfriend, Gerald Anderson. This unconfirmed rumor about Julia’s alleged pregnancy spread like wildfire on social media. The 23-year-old actress immediately dispelled the rumors and claimed it was nothing but ‘fake news.’
Jay Sonza immediately retracted his statement, but the damage has been done. Julia is determined in pursuing a case against the former journalist. On September 25, the actress was accompanied by her mother at the National Bureau of Investigation to file a libel case against Sonza.

“I am pursuing this case because the statements made by Mr. Sonza are untrue and irresponsible. The widespread reposting of the news based on his post caused distress to me and my family. I don’t want to take this matter lightly. Mr. Sonza, and all those who publish these reckless and baseless posts, must be held accountable for their actions so that they think twice before claiming things as fact.”
Julia and her representatives asked the NBI Cybercrime to investigate the “untrue and irresponsible statements made by Sonza on his social media account.”
Just recently, another Kapamilya actress filed a libel case against a basher. On September 24, Liza Soberano formally filed a complaint against Melissa Olaes, a Converge employee who made rape threats against Liza. According to the actress, they will not let this incident slide because the woman had her personal information.
“I know that everybody is entitled to their own opinion, that is true, but at some point you have to be respectful to others online. I want people to learn that there are consequences to everything like rape jokes coz that is not a light matter,” says Liza in an interview with the press.
