OFW na Apat na Buwang Na-Ospital Dahil sa COVID-19, Sinagot ng Empleyado ang Mahigit P10M na Hospital Bill

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the worries of overseas Filipino workers is contracting this highly-communicable disease abroad. However, since the COVID-19 cases are also high in other countries, many OFWs were inevitably infected. Among them is Francis Feliciano, a 46-year-old OFW who was hospitalized for more than four months after testing positive for coronavirus.

According to online records, Francis works as an executive in a multinational food company in Dubai. He has been working in this company for quite a long time, and he has a good track record. So when he tested positive for COVID-19, his company shouldered his hospital bills, which amounted to a staggering bill of P10 million!

On April 13, the Dubai-based OFW experienced the tell-tale symptoms of COVID-19 including a high fever and a persistent cough. He was immediately admitted to the ICU of Canadian Specialist Hospital (CHS) in Abu Hail. That is the start of Francis’ 72-day stay in the hospital while battling against COVID-19.

His wife, Sheila, is living in Canada, while their son is left in the Philippines. With no family by his side, Francis relies on his caring healthcare workers to look after him during his ordeal. According to Sheila, they were worried of his condition every passing day.

“Every time na tumatawag ako sa doktor, ‘yun ang sinasabi na tulog daw si Francis kasi na-intubate na raw siya.”

During his stay in the hospital, Francis was intubated for more than two months due to his difficulty in breathing. He was also revived four times and thanks to the help of the nurses and doctors, he lived on to tell his tale. According to Francis, he owes his life to the health care workers.

“I thank God I survived this terrible ordeal and thank the hospital for not giving up on me and taking such good care. I feel better now. I am able to talk with my family on video chat and am hoping to recover completely and look forward to meeting my wife and son soon.”
